Message from Sheriff Jimmy Stephens

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens of Johnson County for allowing me to serve as your Sheriff. On New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Morning, we initiated the Free Ride Home program in cooperation with the City-Metro Taxi Company.  Between the hours of 12am-3am, we received 13 calls from residents requesting rides home and it was our pleasure to provide those rides.  We also worked with surrounding law enforcement agencies to saturate the roads with patrol officers and we are pleased to announce that we had zero DWI accidents or deaths in Johnson County on Dec 31-Jan 1.

Having just finished our first two weeks, we have identified a number of challenges that we need to overcome. I’m excited about the changes we are implementing and feel confident the new policies and practices put in place will serve our Sheriff’s office and community well.

We have taken steps to increase our presence in the County. On Jan 1, our patrol division began working 12-hour shifts, which gives us the ability to have three deputies on shift at all times.  This allows for us have more patrol units on the roads, provide faster response time to calls received, get reports completed on time, as well as reduce the comp time accumulated.

As your Sheriff, I look forward to working together in an effort to provide a safe and desirable place to live, work and raise our families.
