Arrests Made In Multi-Vehicle Break-Ins, Vehicle Theft
Two Johnson County residents were arrested by Sheriff's Office personnel after 4 vehicles were broken into and a truck stolen from a residence on County Road 3251 between midnight and 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 16. At approximately 6:00 a.m. the 911 dispatch center began receiving calls about multiple vehicle break-ins and thefts. A caller also reported that his 1993 Chevrolet truck was missing from his yard. Items taken from the vehicles included stereos and checks. Nathaniel Oberste, age 24 and Robert Baker, age 24 were arrested on multiple charges. Deputies put out a BOLO on the stolen vehicle and the bank was contacted about the missing checks. At approximately 9:00 a.m. the suspects attempted to cash one of the stolen checks at a bank in Russellville. The bank teller notified Russellville P.D. who responded and located the stolen truck at the bank. Surveillance video showed the suspect attempting to cash the check. Detectives recognized him as Oberste. The video also showed the suspects leaving the bank in a different vehicle, a Ford Explorer. Oberste was located at a Clarksville business and arrested at approximately 10:30 a.m. Oberste was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia at the time of his arrest. The Ford Explorer was located near the original area of the break-ins. As deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, Baker sped away. Deputies stopped him at a nearby residence and took him into custody at approximately 12:30 p.m. A .22 caliber pistol with the serial numbers removed was located between the drivers seat and console of the vehicle. Search warrants were executed on the Oberste residence on County Road 3251 and the Ford Explorer and items were seized as evidence from both. Nathaniel Oberste is charged with Breaking or Entering (3 Counts), Theft of Property (6 Counts), Forgery 2nd Degree (4 Counts), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Meth) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Robert Baker is charged with Aiding the Consummation of an Offense, Possession of a Defaced Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) and Possession of Prescription Medication Without A Prescription. Both are awaiting a bond hearing.
