A male subject was killed at approximately 3:15 this afternoon after being struck by a westbound Union Pacific train engine on a trestle west of Spadra Park.
The unknown male, believed to be between 45-55 years of age was on the trestle over the Arkansas River backwater when the train engine struck him. He was thrown from the trestle, which did not have side rails, approximately 30 feet into the water.
Witnesses called 911 and stayed near the scene to direct personnel to the area.
Units from the Sheriff's Office, Clarksville Police Department, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Union Pacific Police responded.
The Johnson County Dive Team was called and after searching approximately 10 minutes located the body in 13 feet of water.
Johnson County Coroner Dave Cogan pronounced the subject dead at the scene.
The body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for a autopsy and to determine identity.
