An Ozark resident died on Saturday, July 28 at approximately 5:00 p.m. while swimming with friends at a private rock quarry on County Road 2171.

According to witnesses, Leonard Gates, age 63 was swimming when he went under the water momentarily.  He was pulled from the water and witnesses began administering CPR while calling for an ambulance.

Gates was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Ricky Harp.

It it unknown if Gates drowned or a medical condition contributed to his death.

Gates' body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine cause of death.
