Multiple wildfires broke out in Johnson County today, the largest consuming between 80-100 acres on Hudson Springs Road (County Road 3300/3371).

At approximately 1:00 p.m. a report came in of a mobile home on fire on County Road 3371.  The fire quickly spread east across County Road 3371 and turned north across an open field with mulitple homes in the path of the fire.

The fire continued north, jumped County Road 3300 and continued north across a hillside.

Rural Fire Districts 1, 2, 8 and the Clarksville Fire Department responded to the fire along with dozer crews and multiple hand crews from the Arkansas Forestry Commission, the Johnson County Office of Emergency Management and Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

Knoxville and Lamar Fire Departments provided assistance in loading the tanker at the Clarksville Airport and provided personnel at the scene.

A Blackhawk helicopter and tanker plane were brought in to help bring the fire under control.  It took approximately 4 1/2 hours to contain the fire.

The cause of the fire is a faulty window air conditioner unit in the mobile home.

Preliminary reports indicate that 3 houses and 2 barns were burned because of the fire with damage to two other structures.  Fire personnel saved approximately 10 other homes and multiple outbuildings from burning.

While crews were battling this fire, two other fires broke out.  The first was an outbuilding on the Mount Vernon Loop (County Road 3590).  Rural Fire Districts 1 and 3 brought the fire under control quickly with minimal damage.

The second was another outbuilding in the Spadra community.  Rural Fire Districts 9 and 4 quickly brought the fire under control, again with minimal damage.

Johnson County deputies have issued 3 citations just today for outdoor burning.
