Sentence Handed Down In Horse Abuse Case

The trial of Regan Westbrook of Fort Smith, scheduled for Monday, June 1, was settled without a trial when Westbrook pled no contest to 19 counts of misdemeanor Animal Cruelty in front of District Judge Len Bradley.  Judge Bradley found Westbrook guilty of all 19 counts, assessed fines of $500.00, court costs of $1900.00 and Sheriff's fee of $30.00.  Westbrook was placed on 1 year probation and sentenced to 30 days in jail on each count which was suspended conditioned upon payment of fines, cost and restitution. Westbrook was also ordered to surrender all horses to Give Me A Chance Equine Rescue and ordered to pay Give Me A Chance restitution of $6157.25, which is 1/3 of the total cost of care to date.  The horses were seized from property on County Road 2243 on March 13 because of their condition and neglect.
