Residential Burglaries Expected To Rise

As the Thanksgiving holiday winds down and Christmas approaches, Johnson County residents need to be aware that daytime residential burglaries are expected to rise. It's a trend we have seen for many years and with the worsening economy it's a sure bet it may be even worse this year. Burglary is typically a crime of opportunity because many times both adults in the house work, most on the day shift. However, that does not mean that burglars will not hit your house at any other time, but daytime seems to be the preference around the Christmas holiday. Please take extra caution by closing your drapes and blinds, double locking your doors and possibly leaving a vehicle in the driveway. Ask a neighbor or relative to check your house and property during the day. If you return home from work and discover your residence has been burglarized, do not touch anything and contact the Sheriff's Office. It's always a good idea to make a list of all Christmas presents under the tree to provide to law enforcement in the event of a burglary.
