Suicidal Subject Shoots Self In Front Of Deputies

Johnny Hern, age 32 was transported to Johnson County Regional Medical Center on Sunday, May 24 to be treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound after being confronted by deputies.  The Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at approximately 1:15 p.m. that Hern had a pistol and was threatening bodily harm to himself at his residence on County Road 2250 near Hartman.  Deputies Glenda Morrison and Tim Wages arrived at the Hern residence at approximately 1:30 p.m. and saw Hern in the driveway of his residence.  The deputies made contact with Hern who refused to show his hands and told the deputies he wanted no help.  Hern was leaning over with his hands between his legs while speaking with the deputies.  Hern then stood up, turned around and shot himself in the right shoulder with a .25 caliber handgun.  An ambulance was called and Hern was transported for treatment.  The investigation is continuing.
