Resident Arrested After Pursuit

A Spadra resident, Dusty Wyatt, age 35 was arrested by Deputy Todd Russell following a pursuit which began in Johnson County and ended in Logan County at approximately 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, October 8. Russell was patrolling on Highway 109 near the Arkansas river bridge when he noticed a vehicle approaching him from the south o the bridge at a high rate of speed. Russell locked the vehicle on radar at 91 miles per hour. The vehicle passed him and continued south on Highway 109 toward Crawford Highway. Russell attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver turned right on Crawford, then right on 2331 where it went into the ditch, right onto 2340 then left on 109 toward Logan County. Russell pursued the vehicle into Scranton where the driver made circles in the parking lot of a business before heading east on Highway 197. The vehicle continued east on 197 approximately 8 miles before turning around and traveling back toward Scranton. In Scranton, the driver manuvered through side streets as ASP personnel attempted to deploy stop sticks. The driver entered 109 attempting to travel north again then pulled into the parking lot of a business and was blocked in by responding units. The driver was arrested at the scene without incident. Wyatt is charged with Fleeing (Auto), Failure To Stop At A Stop Sign, Failure To Use Turn Signal, Driving On Shoulder, Reckless Driving, Driving Left Of Center and Speeding. When it became obvious Wyatt was not intoxicated and had no outstanding warrants he was asked why he ran from Deputy Russell. His reply was "I didn't want a ticket for speeding and thought if I made it to the river bridge and into Logan county y'all wouldn't follow me any more".
