The attempted capital murder trial of John Michael Overbey of Knoxville was declared a mistrial by Circuit Judge Bill Pearson at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14. Overbey was standing trial in connection with the November 2007 incident in Knoxville in which he pulled a rifle on then deputy William "Chip" Riddle. Overbey was shot multiple times in the incident. The defense asked for a mistrial after jurors could not uninamously reach a verdict on one single charge. |
