Man Arrested For DWI # 2 After Showing Up Drunk For DWI # 1 Trial

A 37 year-old Russellville man was arrested in Johnson County District Court after showing up drunk for a DWI trial.  Christopher Shane Martin was originally arrested by the Arkansas State Police and Lamar P.D. for DWI # 1 and implied consent on January 13, 2009.  Martin appeared in court on January 29 and pled not guilty to the charges.  At that time a trial date of February 26 was set for him.  Upon his arrival in the courtroom, officers who were there to testify smelled the odor of intoxicants on him.  The District Court Judge was made aware of the situation and after speaking with Mr. Martin asked that he be tested for intoxication.  A portable breath test was administered in the court room which showed a level of intoxication of .10.  Martin was taken next door to the detention center where a breathyalyzer test was performed in which Mr. Martin checked a .11.  A deputy saw Mr. Martin drive into the parking lot for his court appearance so Martin was charged with DWI # 2, driving on a suspended license and no proof of liability insurance.
