Pilot Injured in Crash on Batson Mountain

A 69 year old Batson resident was injured when his experimental ariplane crashed at his private landing strip on his property on County Road 4021 near the Johnson/Franklin County line in northwest Johnson County.  Isaac Tate, 69, was attempting to take off in his 1996 experimental plane when the engine experienced a loss of power.  The left landing wheel struck the edge of the runway, collapsed and caused the plane to turn sideways.  The plane slid off the runway and came to rest in a field.  Tate was transported to Mercy/Turner Memorial Hospital in Ozark by private vehicle to be checked out for a possible back injury.  The aircraft was heavily damaged.  Units of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and Johnson County Office of Emergency Mangagement responded to the scene and the Federal Aviation Administration was notified.
